I just finished reading Ryu Murakami's "In the Miso Soup", a short rollercoaster ride of a book, mainly about Kabuki-cho and a lot about foreigners in Japan and why Japan is as it is. Such as things like why people are obsessed over LV and Niketown, why there are 'compensated dates', why schoolgirls prostitute themselves. Plus lots of horrible things that are in between.
I feel terribly drawn towards this short novel of his as there's so much stuff I can't put into words whilst in Japan but are nonchalantly argued for and scrutinised. I know that the art of short novels are regarded as quite a genre of its own in Japanese literature, I'm thinking of delving into more 'shorts', any recommendations?
